90
MINUTE SESSIONS TO INCLUDE A SELECTION OF THE BELOW EACH WEEK
-
warm-up
question repeated round the table on a weekly basis : 'what have you
been doing over the last week?' (to work on use of past tenses and
get into the swing of speaking French)
-
a few minutes on one of the sounds of French to aid pronunciation
and in the long term, comprehension
-
working aloud on homework given the previous week, comparing answers
and checking for full understanding with opportunity for further questions
and discussion
-
possibility, if interest, of a short 2 minute presentation by one
of the students some weeks on a simple topic - anything from 'my favourite
restaurant in Paris' to 'why I don't wear high heels'. Slightly scary
but excellent for building confidence! Feedback from myself and others
only if wanted (you won't be torn apart and go home crying, honest!)
this also gives the others the chance to concentrate on a subject
most will be unfamiliar with and practise asking questions. The presenter
might also like to prepare a few questions for the audience ('what
colour were my first pair of killer heels and how much did they cost?')
and a short vocab list if they had to look up specific terms
-
working through a piece of grammar / verb tense or mood. Sample
suggestions:
comparison and formation of perfect and imperfect tenses; the point
of reflexive verbs (yes there is one!); object pronouns direct and
indirect; the perfect tense with être - why?!; prepositions
à and de; use of lequel; relative
pronouns qui, que, which to use and why the English often
forget them altogether; question words and prompts (ah bon?!);
the pluperfect and future perfect tenses, what is a mood anyway and
why is it different to a tense; the divine trinity of subject, verb
and object and their relationship explained...
-
work
on a longer text and subject-linked podcast over several sessions
to build up to working in depth on real-life current French with opportunities
to discuss the topic, pick out specific vocabulary/phrases and develop
listening and discussion skills
-
a repeated closing formula asked around the table such as the question
'what will you be doing over the next week?' (use of future tense
and eventually use of moods such as the conditional, subjunctive and
passive)
