At the end of 2010 I ran a
Beginners+ French group which I am continuing to hold
at my house in Banstead on a Tuesday evening from 7 - 8.15pm
Each session costs £15 and includes notes and a glass of wine
and
takes place every week so long as a minimum of 3 students can attend.
We focus on speaking rather than reading and
• using the most common -and hence useful- regular and irregular
French verbs in commonplace contexts
• working on the past, present and future tenses of these with
a small section of practice
using group repetition and rote (it's actually quite fun, honest!)
• group and pair work involving question-forming and making
appropriate answers
• useful catch-all phrases and general vocabulary development
• highlighting a sound per week to improve pronunciation
- and finally, occasionally -
• listening to some short podcasts/audio French to highlight
the importance of the focus of the above.
This group is aimed at those
learning French pretty much from scratch and is run at a sedate pace
and I encourage
students to repeat and practise at home whatever we cover in class
as unfortunately I haven't come across a way
of learning French FOR my students! So... yes, there is a little homework
and it's important to do it.
We seem to laugh a lot though and there is certainly increased ability
in the few weeks we have been together so far!
There are a
couple of free spaces, so if you think you'd like to join in
then just get in touch!
